                     Karnataka's new chief minister basabaraj bommai will be the caretaker leader of the Lingayat community and the home minister in the Yeduraspa government. BS Yeduraspa resigned as chief minister yesterday while a meeting of the BJP legislature was held in Bengaluru today to select a new leader. At the meeting, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced that Basabaraj had been unanimously elected as the leader of the Legislative Party. Basabaraj will be sworn in as the 30th Chief Minister of the state tomorrow afternoon. Prior to the Legislative Assembly meeting, Union Minister Pradhan and Union Minister Kisan Reddy had earlier held talks with all senior party leaders. Earlier in the day, it was clear that the Lingayat MLA would be the next Chief Minister of Karnataka. Basabaraj, who is close to Yeduraspa, has been instrumental in strengthening party organization in the state and gaining the support of the Lingayat community. Yeduraspa proposed Basabaraj's name at a meeting of the Legislative Assembly today, which was supported by all.

                      The outgoing Chief Minister Yeduraspa has been the Chief Minister of the state four times but has not completed his term. Basabaraj, who was elected Chief Minister today, was born on January 28, 1960. He is the former Chief Minister of Karnataka. S. R, Bomai's son and joined the BJP in 2008, and was elected MLA from the Shigao assembly constituency that year. Known as an engineer, agriculturist and industrialist, Basabaraj has done remarkable work for the development of irrigation in the state.
