The Indian Peasant Front has called for a 10 hour shutdown in India on Monday. In Odisha, it is supported by various political parties, farmers' organizations and social organizations, including the Congress. It has been decided to deploy a large police force across the state to ensure that no untoward incidents occur during the shutdown from 6 am to 4 pm. It has been decided to close all government and private offices, educational institutions, shops, markets, business establishments and industrial establishments in the country during the shutdown. Employees of Lok Seba Bhavan, Rajiv Bhavan, Kharbel Bhavan have been asked to reach the office by 9.30 am. The main gate of the public service building will be closed at 10:15 a.m. Employees and passers by are then said to be able to travel through the back gate. The shutdown will be successful in Odisha, the Congress said. PCC president Niranjan Patnaik said the Congress would strongly support the shutdown. But there will be no cuts on essential services. The BJP did not say in support of India's call for a shutdown, but said the party had always been with the farmers. The issue of MSP has also been raised in Parliament.
