Municipal vote on March 24

                 The state will go to polls on March 24. State Election Commissioner Aditya Prasad Padhi today announced that elections will be held in 47 municipalities, 59 NAC and 3 municipal corporations in the state. In addition, there will be simultaneous direct elections for the posts of Chairpersons of all the above 106 Municipal Councils and Mayors of three Municipal Corporations. The election commission has issued a notification that the election results will be announced on March 26. The model code of conduct came into effect from today following the commission's notification. It will continue till March 26. The model code of conduct has come into force across the state till February 28 for panchayat elections while it has now increased till March 26.

                   Election officials in charge of various municipalities will issue notification on February 28 for municipal elections as per the notification of the state election commission. The nomination papers will be submitted from March 2 to 7. The nomination papers will be verified on March 9. The candidature will be withdrawn by March 14. Voting will take place on March 24, counting of votes on March 26. Indirect elections will be held on April 8 with the post of Deputy Mayor and Mayor on April 7.

                This time there are 3030 booths of a total of 1731 WADs in 106 municipal councils and more than 27 lakh voters. Similarly, 168 wards in three municipal corporations have 1407 booths while more than 14 lakh voters. A total of 41.26 lakh voters will vote in a total of 1899 booths. On the contrary, there will be no election this time in Puri Municipality. The commission has taken a decision not to hold elections here as the case regarding the election of Puri municipality is pending in the high court. Similarly, a case regarding elections in Ward-4 of Bhadrav Municipality is pending in the High Court and there will be no voting here now. The municipal elections will be held as a party. Political parties seeking to participate in the election will submit the names of the authorized persons from his party to the concerned election officials by 5.30 pm on March 7, two days before scrutiny of the nomination papers. Similarly, the authorized person will submit the nomination letter to the concerned election officer for party ticket by 5.30 pm on March 8, the day before the verification.

                 Similarly, polling will be held from 8 am to 5 pm this time. The nomination papers will be available at the election officer's office. The local additional collector for Bhubaneswar and Cuttack is the election officer while the local deputy collector for Brahmapur has become the election officer. ADM/Tehsildars are election officers in the rest of the municipality/NAC. They can work in their offices or in the said municipal bodies.
